Big News!

I'm officially a contracted teacher!!

The past 3 years since I finished graduate school have been insanely hard and stressful as I tried to find a contracted teaching position.  Severe budgets cuts in education left nearly all districts in my area furloughing teachers, not hiring them.

I've been lucky in the sense that I have been working steadily over the last 3 years.  I had two long term positions covering for two teachers who went on maternity leave.  I spent 8 weeks working in a school for juvenile delinquents.  I also spent a month last summer working as a one on one assistant to a sweet teenage boy with severe autism. This past year I simultaneously worked 40 hours a week as an every day English as a Second Language teacher while also taking 15 credits of courses to certify myself to teach ESL.

All of my hard work finally payed off! In the span of 5 days in early January I was interviewed, observed and offered a contract. I started crying on the phone with HR when they called.  Last night at the school board meeting my offer was approved.

This couldn't have come at a better time.  I turn 28 at the end of the week and this is a huge turning point in my life.  My and my husband's adult life has sort of been on hold for the last few years.  Becoming contracted means that we can finally start living like real adults.  Buying a home, having babies, and even simply taking a vacation are now more of a realistic goal instead of a lofty dream.

I'm convinced my 28th year will be my best yet!
