Giving Up Diet Pop: An Update

I get a large number of hits on my blog from people who are wondering if giving up diet pop will help them lose weight.  I wrote this post back in April where I discussed how I gave up drinking diet pop completely cold turkey.

It has been 10 months since I quit drinking diet pop, so I thought I would give a little update on how it has affected my weight loss.

Last year, I lost 44 pounds. However, I have not worked out consistently since August.  While I don't eat as bad as I did when I was over 200 pounds, I have been a little less strict with myself when it comes to eating.

I haven't gained a single pound back.  In fact, I actually lost about 4 pounds between August and now.  I really think this has a lot to do with the fact that I don't drink diet pop anymore.

Here's why:

1. I used to crave sweets all.the.time.  Since giving up diet pop, I don't crave them anymore.  In fact, I never really eat them.  I think the artificial sweetener in diet pop made me crave real sugar.  I still love a good cupcake or almond croissant every now and then, but I don't feel the need to eat peanut butter cups on a daily basis anymore.

2. I only drink water now, so I don't get the full, bloated feeling from carbonated pop.  I feel slimmer even on days when I indulge too much because I'm not full of carbonated bubbles.

3.  Some days, like Christmas Eve or when I'm watching football with my family, I allow myself to have a Diet Coke.  In the past 10 months, I would say I've allowed myself to have 5 or 6 diet cokes.  Treating myself once in a while is okay and makes me feel like I have control over this process!

If you are thinking about giving up diet pop, trust me, I understand how hard it is.  Give it a try and I swear you will be happy with the results!

  3. I'm not much of a soda drinker but I know a few friends who drink it a lot and when they stopped they complained of migraines.
